bryant creek

before you get any bright ideas, i have to begin with: i. hate. cross-country. skiing. i mean, i fall constantly. i hate being cold. i hate sweating when i'm cold. i hate not going fast. i hate that there is no hot cocoa in a warm lodge seconds away.

overall, not a fan.

but for some reason, my parents convinced me for the second time to ski to bryant creek, stay the night in a log cabin, and ski back.

the second time was just as bad as the first. but i have to say the fresh, untouched mountain snow was NEARLY enough for me to enjoy myself. but not quite.

until next time…

love,
me

oh canada

you might not have loved your first canada day, but i'll tell you what: you will. you will just LOVE all the candy tossed at you from family-filled floats and vintage cars. you will love to play with all your cousins and second cousins and cousins once or twice removed in the hot hot sun with a burger in one hand and a rice crispy square in the other. you will beg to go swimming in the raymond pool and, eventually, be brave enough to jump from the diving board and ride alone down the slide. you might not believe me yet, but canada day is the best. and it is best in raymond, alberta.

love,
mom

they got cash and they're just getting richer

some people are so poor, all they have is money.

these guys have wes. and he not only has enriched their lives, but mine also. he was the only one who could make asher laugh for most of asher's life. the. only. one. and his laugh is so contagious, it only makes sense.

we love you wesley dear.

beach hair tutorial

for girls:

braid hair. do not touch for one week. during week, make sure to jump into lake a kajillion times, roll in sand at least once a day, stay in sun as long as possible every day.

difficulty: very high difficulty to detangle but amazingly easy to maintain.

for boys:

grow out hair till it falls below your eyes. on a monday, shave hair to resemble a mohawk, side mohawk, or other ridiculousness. allow to settle for six days. always remember gramma's rule to shave mohawk completely before church the next sunday.

difficulty: easy for aunt jenny. difficult for boys to hold still during shave.

for best results, do multiple times a summer.

be sure and tag #bumbershootbeachhair in all your hair posts so i can see all your best beach hairs!

good luck.

it was a home before there was a house

a few years ago, my parents bought an incredible piece of land. and then there was a house. and now it is our home (at least the basement is…).

it is not difficult to be entertained and make some noise here. no one cares if you have a bonfire way past sunset. no one complains if you practice your shot. no one bats an eye if children race through the trees on motorbikes. and everyone eats as many s'mores as they like.

these were taken before the house went up, but the party had already started.
