la dame de fer
everything can be a workout for my mom. stairs instead of elevator. two steps at a time up the escalator. speed walking through shopping malls. if you pause to tie your shoe, you've lost her almost immediately.
so, when my mom wanted to skip the elevator lines and walk up the 1665 steps to the top of the eiffel tower, it wasn't a surprise... but it was near the end of the day, and we were tired, and we thought/hoped/prayed that she was, too...
needless to say, we climbed 1665 steps to the top of the eiffel tower.
and now i can say i did it.
thanks mom.
love,
me
ps. it really is quite large, you know. a lot bigger in real life than in the photos. maybe i'm saying this because i climbed it, but the iron lady is no lady. more like an iron giant...

paris is always a good idea. audrey hepburn.
paris. lutetia parisiorum, lutce, lutetia, la ville lumire, city of lights, paname, the city of love.
it is pretty much everything they say it is.
except, i did expect more poodles (expectations set by disney...).
and, therefore, more dog poo.
that was not the case. thankfully.
love,
me

a pile of cash
she saved my life from under a collapsed bunk bed, made me move to virginia for the best time of my life, planned my wedding before anyone knew we were engaged, and endured years of random dance parties, singalongs, and road trips. and now she's all grown up, married, raising a puppy, and growing a baby.
we like to pretend we're all grown up, anyways...
and cash is no longer a puppy. he is a full grown muppet, frisbee extraordinaire, and will do anything to get a good chase out of you.
hard to take a picture of a puppy who is always moving, but he sure looks good with these two.
love,
me
ps. remember this?

your two eyes are like two doves
four years...
four years seems like a long time. or maybe just enough time. or maybe no time at all.
all at once.
we've done some crazy things in four years, haven't we.
how crazy? pretty darn...
like:
1. that time we moved to toronto right after we got married...
2. that time we decided to move back to calgary a couple years early...
3. that time i wanted a puppy.
4. that time we bought a puppy...
5. that time i signed both of us up for a volunteer dental trip to india. and you have no dental experience...
6. that time we bought a player piano...
7. that time you were working full time, going to school full time, and on the uofc formula sae team...
8. that time we went to a four day music festival in washington and slept on a air mattress full of holes in the bed of a pick up truck...
9. that time we spent an entire day shoveling sewage and mud out of basements...
10. that other time, long ago, when we decided to do crazy things together for the rest of our lives and tied a knot to last through the eternities so we could do exactly that...
happy four years.
love,
me
